"THE TITATIC" (THE SINKING OF THE UNSINKABLE SHIP)
The Titanic was the largest and most luxurious ocean liner of her time. The ship was nearly 900feet long with nine steel decks. The combined height of the decks was equivalent to a 11-story building. It had four gigantic funnels, each 22ft in diameters and rising 62ft into the sky. The Titanic weighed 46,378 tons and her powerful engine could generate 55,000 horsepower. Her ultra modern kitchens were capable of feeding 6,000 people per day. The ship had 159 furnaces requiring 650 tons of coal a day to operate. Sixteen watertight compartments ensured the safety of the the Titanic giving her the reputation of being "unsinkable". Some even boasted that God Himself even could not sink this ship! Brimming with confidence, the maiden voyage of the Titanic began on April 10, 1912 from Soutampton. UK to new York City, USA.
On the afternoon of Sunday, April 14, numerous reports of icebergs were communicated to the ship's crew but these reports were dismissed as trivial. The Titanic was all set to break transatlantic speed records by reaching New York by Tuesday. Shortly after 9.30 p.m the wireless operator of the Titanic received an urgent message that a large iceberg was in the path of the Titanic. Yet another warning came at about 10 p.m but the wireless operator igniored it too. At about 11.40 p.m the ship stuck a massive iceberg which ripped open a part of the ship's hull, and the unsinkable ship went down to 12,500 feet below to the ocean floor. Of the 2235 passengers on board, 1452 perished, along with 3435 bags of mail, 6000 tons of coal and 800 tons of baggage, in a moment of time 1452 passengers were buried alive in the frigid water of the icy Atlantic. Sadly, these precious lives and the ship Titanic could have been saved had the ship's captain and his staff paid attention to the repeated warnings!
Dear friend, in a similar manner, we must pay heed to the warnings that come from GOd through His Word, the Bible. In the Bible, God clearly warns us concerning certain realities of life's journey. The first reality of life is that we all will die. Each of us will face death some day, perhaps unexpectedly, The word of GOd says' "For ;the wages of sin is death"(Rom 6:23a). God further declares "It is appointed for a ma to die once" (Heb 9:27) God compares man's life to beautiful flowers which will eventually disapear in moment( Psalms 103:14-15). In the face of these divine warning, the only proper course of action is to prepare oneself to face death becauseit is inevitable and may coem swiftly and unexpected.
